About
Through painting, drawing, printmaking, and installations, Julie weaves in elements of personal and cultural history from her nomadic upbringing — moves from Seoul to California, back to Seoul, to Vancouver, to Boston, to Northampton, and New York — into reflections of the past.
Her works ask questions about identity, time, and memory, in relation to a place or object. Through her work, she explores varying levels of agency, and layers of identity. Julie is also deeply interested in the materiality of time.
As I reflect on or observe a place, I am continuously trying to find the private in public, and public in private spaces.
